Surin (สุรินทร์)
Surin (สุรินทร์): 450 km east of Bangkok is a big province on the Mun River Basin in the lower north-east of Thailand. In ancient times it was an important part of the Khmer empire but today it is famous, locally and international, for its yearly held "Surin Elephant Round-Up". The province was always home to elephants and Surin people have a long relationship with these pachyderms. During the festival more than 300 elephants march through the city followed by a feast of fruits for the animals. They impress everyone with their cleverness and create a unique character of the province.
