Khon Kaen(ขอนแก่น)

Khon Kaen(ขอนแก่น): 
is the commercial, administrative an educational centre of the Northeast. Khon Kaen is the centre of the northeastern silk industry with numerous villages producing their own "mudmee" designs. Chonnabot is noted for its high quality silks. Every December the city hosts a Silk Fairand all the best materials are on sale. 

Khon Kaen has plenty of beautiful temples, Wat Jien Bung Kaen Nakhon, Wat That. Wat Nongwang is located south of the city providing a stunning view of Khon Kaen city and Bung Kaen Nakhon Lake can be seen from the 9-tiered balcony that surrounds the outside of the temple. The Wat’s abbot will occasionally invite visitors to the top of the Wat to view ancient Buddhist artifacts. 

Khon Kaen National Museum houses objects from the Dvaravati period and bronze sculptures from Ban Chiang. 

Ubonrat Dam - Most of the area is covered with dipterocarps forests. Activities are jungle treks, lodging at a guesthouse, camping in the forest and campfires. 

Worth a visit is the King Cobra Conservation Project where dozen of Thailand’s endangered king cobras are protected and bred. 

Phu Wiang National Park, an area also famous for its flora, fauna and waterfalls and as well for the dinosaur remains which had been found here.
