Amnat Charoen(อำนาจเจริญ):
580 km northeast ofBangkok is know as the land of Dharma. It is famous for its scenic views along the Maekong River, especially during the dry season, when the rock formations are visible.
Phra Mongkon Ming Muang is located in a forest like park and houses a 20 meter high Buddha statue in the mudra of subduing Mara. Is is decorated with golden mosaic tiles in North-Indian style and the most sacred Buddha image of the province. The temple also keeps a respected Buddha image called Pa La Hai, coincidentally discovered in the pond in 1962 when the temple was under renovation. This Buddha image is believed to bring good fortune to worshippers.
Wat Tham Saeng Phet is a famous meditation sanctuary, a school of the late Phra Achan Cha. The large temple area consists of a hilltop chapel with the principal Buddha image. The temple is set amidst rocks which reflect the light and sparkle like diamonds. Monks of different nationalities come here for meditation retreats. Don Chao Pu Forest Park is a dense forest with a lot of different varieties of trees, many of them more than 100 years old. The shady and quiet forest is home to a large number of monkeys.
